Catalonia bullfighting ban is about politics, not animal cruelty

Bullfighting is to Spain what baseball is to America. July 28, nevertheless, bullfighting was banned in the Spanish province. In 2010, the Catalan bullfighting ban will start. The ban was passed by Catalonian parliament in Barcelona when animal rights activists cheered with job and happiness. Numerous suspect animal cruelty wasn’t the reason the bullfighting ban was put into place. Many think that Catalonians are just trying to be different than the rest of Spain in this political act.

Catalonia bullfighting isn’t really about animal rights

The Catalonia bullfighting ban appears to be more about politics than animal cruelty. NPR reminds us that there were only 15 bullfights in the one Catalonian bullring annually anyway. Those against bullfighting said it was very cruel when those for it said Spanish Culture was at stake. Numerous think breaking from Spanish tradition is a good thing because it will set Catalonia apart from the rest of Spain. Barcelona is when all this began when bulls seem unharmed by the activity. Annually, 1,000 bullfights are witnessed in Spain.

Madrid and Catalonia separated through bullfighting

The Catalonia bullfighting ban was taken seriously by fans and Spanish conservatives. The Associated Press reports that the Popular Party is hoping there won’t be any anti-Spanish rebukes although that seems unlikely. Catalonia has always been one to separate from the pack considering their own language they have also as the culture that is separate from the rest of Spain. Many in Spain have seen the pressure here for a bullfighting ban as a political statement by Catalonia to stand out from the rest of the country.

Banning bullfighting just to rebel

The Catalonia bullfighting ban didn’t involve the bulls at all writes Spanish travel blogger, Damian Corrigan. Corrigan says that it doesn’t even matter if you are independent in today’s Europe on About.com. Really, all that Catalonians want are less taxes going to Madrid. It doesn’t matter what you believe in politics. Rebellion is only for fun.
